The Kebbi State Police Command has thwarted an attempted cattle-rustling operation by suspected Lakurawa bandits in Bunza Local Government Area. The operation was carried out with support from the military and other security agencies, leading to the death of one suspect.

The attackers were said to have stormed Tungan Babu Lada village, where they killed a 35-year-old resident, Usman Ferungu. After the attack, the gunmen fled with stolen cattle.

Security operatives responded quickly after receiving reports of the incident. A joint team launched a pursuit of the fleeing suspects.

In a statement released to journalists on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, explained how the operation unfolded.

” the team led by the Divisional Police Officer of Kangiwa Division, the operatives pursued the fleeing suspects and intercepted them at Garin Mayo Mine.

” A gun battle ensued during which one of the suspected bandits was neutralized, while four motorcycles believed to have been used by the criminals were recovered”

Police authorities said the intervention disrupted the gang’s activities. They added that the action prevented further violence and saved lives in the affected communities.

The command reaffirmed its resolve to safeguard residents across the state. It noted that intensified patrols and intelligence-based operations would continue under the policing strategy of the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Mohammed Hadeija.

Residents were also encouraged to cooperate with security agencies. The police urged the public to provide prompt and reliable information, assuring that efforts were ongoing to deny criminal groups freedom of movement within Kebbi State.
