Premier League Deletes Vicario Post After Spurs Complaint

The Premier League has removed a social media post featuring Guglielmo Vicario after Tottenham Hotspur formally complained about the content.

The deleted clip showed the Spurs goalkeeper taking a free-kick during Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage. Vicario’s long delivery travelled into space with no teammate making a run, prompting the league’s official account to caption the post: “Just how the play was drawn up.” The video also carried the text “An interesting free-kick from Vicario,” alongside a laughing emoji and the word “whoops.”

The footage was shared across multiple Premier League platforms. On X, it attracted just under half a million views, while it was also posted on the league’s TikTok account, which has close to 25 million followers.

The post triggered backlash from Tottenham supporters, who argued that the tone conflicted with the competition’s messaging on player welfare and mental health. Spurs subsequently contacted the Premier League at various levels to register their dissatisfaction, stressing that the governing body should not appear to mock its own clubs or players.

The video was later taken down.

The controversy came after another frustrating afternoon for Tottenham under new head coach Igor Tudor, who was overseeing just his second match in charge. Fulham’s opener in the London derby stood despite protests that defender Radu Drăgușin had been pushed by Raúl Jiménez in the build-up.

Tudor later pointed to what he described as inconsistent officiating, noting that Spurs had a goal ruled out in the North London derby earlier this season following a similar incident.
