‘Threats Everywhere From Their Squad’ – Uganda Coach Gives Honest Verdict
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Uganda coach Paul Put has warned of Nigeria’s quality ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, describing the Super Eagles as a team packed with exceptional talent and top-level European experience.

The Cranes have been drawn in Group C, alongside Nigeria, Tunisia and Tanzania, in what promises to be one of the tournament’s most competitive groups.

Uganda will face Nigeria in their final group fixture at the Fez Stadium, Fez, five days after Christmas, a clash expected to be crucial in determining qualification for the knockout stage.

History does not favour Uganda as the Cranes have managed just two victories against the Super Eagles, with their last win coming more than eighteen years ago, in March 2007.

The Super Eagles, three-time African champions, are once again among the favourites for the title, boasting a star-studded squad filled with players from Europe’s top leagues, including past and present African Footballer of the Year, Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman.

Put acknowledged the scale of the challenge but maintained that his side would approach the contest with belief rather than fear.

Speaking to CAF’s official website, the Belgian tactician said: “They are a perennial powerhouse. There are threats everywhere from their squad with top talent and European experience.”

Put also praised Uganda’s other group opponents, noting that Tunisia are highly organised, technical and tactically astute, while Tanzania bring energy and familiarity.

“We will respect all of them, but we are not intimidated. We will give a good account of ourselves,” Put concluded.
